When Bill Jones was about 16, he was working with his father, Tom, for the Circle Cross outfit with the wagons. Bill had a horse that he couldn’t make go very good. His dad threw a bunch of scrap pieces of leather in a pan full of water and heated it. That’s how you work leather like that. Tom built that quirt at noon at the wagon. He put all that together so that Bill would have something to make that horse go.
